We couldn’t find a

The Problem We Couldn’t Ignore

Every treat on the shelf
had something to hide.

In 2024, we tried to find quality treats for our own dog in Kalyan. We read every label. The premium brands. The vet brands. The “natural” brands.

All the same. Grain fillers up front. Chemical preservatives. Synthetic colours added purely for visual appeal — colours dogs cannot even see.

What we kept finding
Corn starch & wheat as first ingredients
BHA & BHT chemical preservatives
Artificial colour E129 — purely cosmetic
“Meat meal” of unknown origin

How It Happened

From frustrated dog parent
to 29 honest products

1
Early 2024

The label that changed everything

We’d been feeding our dog a popular treat for months. One day we read the label. Corn starch. BHA. Artificial colour. We put it down and never picked it up again.

2
Mid 2024

The kitchen experiments begin

We bought a food dehydrator. Sourced chicken from our local butcher in Kalyan. Dehydrated it slow and low. Put it in front of our dog. The reaction was instant. We knew.

3
Late 2024

The neighbours’ dogs agreed

We shared batches with other dog parents in Kalyan. Same feedback every time — dogs went wild, coats improved, digestion settled. We started taking it seriously.

4
Early 2025

Game of Bones launches

Official launch with 2 products: Chicken Jerky and Buff Jerky. Humidity-resistant zip-lock packaging. Same rule as day one — one ingredient, nothing else.

Today

29 products. Same one rule.

Jerky, chews, organs, fish, whole prey. Every product still has one ingredient on the label. We’ve scaled the range. We have not scaled the complexity.

Non-Negotiables

Three promises we will never break

🌿
Promise 01

One Ingredient.
Always.

The name on the front is the only thing inside. No fillers. No binders. No “natural flavour.” If we add anything, we’ll rename the product.

🧪
Promise 02

Human-Grade.
Always.

We source only what we’d accept from our own butcher or fish market. The same quality standard you’d hold your own food to. No by-products. No mystery meat.

Promise 03

Made in India.
Always.

Made in Maharashtra, India. Indian ingredients, Indian hands, humidity-proof packaging. We live here. We know what monsoon season does to food.

Our Process

Every step visible. No secrets. No shortcuts.

01
Sourcing
Human-Grade Ingredients Only
We source exclusively from trusted suppliers. Every ingredient meets human consumption standards — the same quality you’d find at your butcher or fish market. Single origin, traceable, fresh. We visit suppliers personally and will not compromise on source quality regardless of cost.
02
Preparation
Hand-Prepared, Zero Chemicals
Every piece is cleaned and prepared by hand. No bleach wash. No chemical treatment. No preservative spray. We clean with plain water and prepare each batch fresh on the day it goes into the dehydrator. For fish, we debone where required. For organs, we trim excess fat for ideal texture after dehydration.
03
Dehydration
Slow-Dried at 55–70°C
This is where we differ from most commercial treats. Our dehydration runs at 55–70°C for 12–24 hours depending on the ingredient. This low, slow temperature removes moisture completely while preserving enzymes, amino acids, and micronutrients that high-heat baking destroys. The result is up to 95% nutrient retention versus around 50% for baked treats.
04
Quality & Packing
Tested, Weighed, Sealed
Every batch is visually inspected before packing. We check for texture, colour consistency, and complete moisture removal. Treats are weighed accurately for each size. Packed in resealable, humidity-resistant zip-lock pouches designed for India’s monsoon climate. Each pouch carries a production date and best-before date.

Our Commitment

Game of Bones is a small, owner-operated brand. Every order is packed by hand with care. We take full responsibility if something goes wrong on our end — wrong product, damaged packaging, missing items. We do not hide behind complicated return portals. WhatsApp us, send a photo, and we will sort it out the same day.

What Can Be Returned / Refunded

Because our products are perishable food items, returns work differently from non-food products. Please read the following carefully.

✓ Eligible for Full Refund or Replacement
  • Wrong product delivered — you received a different product than what you ordered
  • Packaging damaged in transit — the pouch arrived torn, crushed or with the seal broken (photo required within 48 hours of delivery)
  • Product significantly different from description — e.g. contents do not match the labelled product at all
  • Missing items — one or more products from your order were not included in the shipment
  • Order not delivered — tracking shows delivered but you did not receive the parcel (must be reported within 7 days of the tracking delivery date)
✘ Not Eligible for Return or Refund
  • Change of mind after delivery — your dog did not like the treat, or you ordered by mistake
  • Opened or partially consumed products — for hygiene and food safety reasons, we cannot accept back any opened treat pouches
  • Incorrect storage after delivery — product quality issues resulting from improper storage (e.g. stored in a humid area without resealing)
  • Smell complaints without product defect — dehydrated meat and fish treats have a strong natural aroma. This is not a defect. The smell is a sign of quality.
  • Damage reported after 48 hours of delivery — transit damage must be reported with photos within 48 hours
  • COD orders refused at delivery — if a COD order is refused without a valid reason, we reserve the right to block future COD orders from the same address

🔍

Yes. All Game of Bones treats are single-ingredient and free from additives, preservatives and fillers. They are safe for all breeds and life stages. Always supervise your dog while eating and choose treat sizes appropriate for your dog.

Puppies from 8 weeks can eat softer treats like Chicken Bites, Chicken Heart & Liver and Anchovies. Harder chews (Chicken Bones, Goat Trotter) should wait until 16+ weeks. Always start with small portions and monitor for any sensitivities.

Jerky and bites last 4–6 weeks at room temperature in a sealed pouch. Fish and organ treats should be refrigerated after opening and used within 2–3 weeks. All unopened products have a 6-month shelf life.

Yes, completely. Every product contains exactly one ingredient — the meat or fish itself. No grains, no corn, no soy, no artificial flavours, no preservatives. What you see on the label is all that is in the bag.

Treats should make up no more than 10% of your dog's daily caloric intake. Use our Treat Calculator (on the Shop page) to get a personalised recommendation based on your dog's weight and the treat type.

Maharashtra orders typically arrive in 2–4 business days. Pan-India delivery takes 3–7 business days. We dispatch orders within 24 hours of confirmation via WhatsApp.

Yes! We offer free shipping on all orders across India. No minimum order required.

Yes, we deliver across India. Use the Pincode Checker on the Shop page to check estimated delivery time for your area.

Returns can be requested within 48 hours of delivery using our self-serve return form — start a return here. If your order arrives damaged or incorrect, WhatsApp us at +91 90825 03295 with a photo and we will arrange a replacement or full refund. Opened products cannot be returned for hygiene reasons. We understand every dog is different! If your dog doesn't take to a treat, WhatsApp us — we'll recommend an alternative and work something out. Our goal is a happy dog, not a completed sale.

Dehydrated (low-heat dried) bones are very different from cooked bones. Cooking makes bones brittle and likely to splinter dangerously. Dehydration keeps the bone pliable and fully digestible. All our bone products are dehydrated, not cooked.

Because every treat is single-ingredient, you know exactly what your dog is eating. For chicken-sensitive dogs, try Buff Jerky, Sardines, Mackerel, Bombay Duck or Goat products — none of these contain chicken. Use the Treat Finder Quiz on the Shop page for personalised recommendations.

All ingredients are sourced from trusted, human-grade suppliers. Our facility in Kalyan, Maharashtra follows food-grade hygiene standards. We test every batch for moisture content and microbial safety.

⛔ Foods to NEVER Give

Some human foods are toxic to dogs and can cause serious health issues or death. Here's what to avoid:

🍫 Chocolate

Contains theobromine. Even small amounts cause vomiting, diarrhea, seizures, and death. Dark chocolate is more dangerous.

🧅 Onions & Garlic

Damage red blood cells causing hemolytic anemia. Both raw and cooked are dangerous.

🍇 Grapes & Raisins

Cause kidney failure. Toxicity is dose-dependent and highly dangerous.

🥛 Dairy (Milk, Cheese)

Most adult dogs are lactose intolerant. Causes diarrhea and stomach upset.

🥓 Cooked Bones

Splinter and cause choking, internal perforations, GI blockage.

🧂 Excess Salt & Spices

Causes dehydration and electrolyte imbalance.

🥗 Xylitol (Sugar-Free)

Found in gum and candy. Causes severe hypoglycemia and liver failure.

🥤 Alcohol & Caffeine

Even small amounts cause neurological damage and heart problems.

🌰 Macadamia Nuts

Cause muscle tremors, weakness, and paralysis.

🥑 Avocado

Contains persin which causes vomiting, diarrhea, and heart damage.

🍞 Moldy or Spoiled Food

Contains mycotoxins causing severe poisoning. Always check freshness.

🚨 EMERGENCY: If dog ingests any toxic food:

Contact vet IMMEDIATELY. Time is critical — most toxins are treatable if handled quickly.

💉 Vaccination Information

⚠️ Why Feeders Should Encourage Vaccination

Rabies is 100% fatal once symptoms appear. Vaccination is the only prevention. DHPP protects against Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvo, Para-influenza — all deadly. A vaccinated dog survives; an unvaccinated one often doesn't. Vaccination protects humans AND the community stray population.

🐕 PUPPY VACCINATION SCHEDULE (Dogs)

6-8 weeks: First DHPP/9-in-1 vaccine

10-12 weeks: Second DHPP/9-in-1 vaccine

14-16 weeks: Third DHPP/9-in-1 + Rabies vaccine

Every 2-4 weeks: Deworming (until 16 weeks)

Annual: Booster shots (DHPP + Rabies)

💊 VACCINE TYPES & COSTS (Dogs)

Rabies: FREE (ABC centers), 1 dose, lasts 3 years

DHPP (4-in-1): ₹200-500, protects: Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvo, Para-influenza

9-in-1 Vaccine: ₹400-700, covers DHPP + Leptospirosis, Corona, additional strains. Better for high-disease areas

Deworming: ₹50-200, prevents worms (causes weakness, diarrhea, malnutrition)

🐱 KITTEN VACCINATION SCHEDULE (Cats)

6-8 weeks: First FVRCP vaccine

10-12 weeks: Second FVRCP vaccine

14-16 weeks: Third FVRCP + Rabies vaccine

Every 2 weeks: Deworming (until 12 weeks)

Annual: Booster FVRCP + Rabies

💊 VACCINE TYPES & COSTS (Cats)

Rabies: FREE/LOW-COST (ABC centers), lasts 3 years

FVRCP (3-in-1): ₹200-500, protects: Feline Viral Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Panleukopenia

Feline Leukemia: ₹300-500, optional but recommended for outdoor/stray cats

Deworming: ₹50-200, same as dogs

💡 Pro Tip: Many municipal corporations and NGOs run FREE vaccination camps monthly. Check your local animal welfare organizations or municipal ward office for dates and locations. YODA, Karuna, and other rescue organizations often conduct free camps.

🏥 Sterilization Guide (ABC)

Why Sterilization Matters

  • Reduces population humanely — no dogs are killed
  • Eliminates breeding season aggression and roaming
  • Prevents genetic diseases and unwanted pregnancies
  • Improves behavior — dogs become calmer and less anxious

Benefits for Community

  • Fewer stray dogs = safer neighborhoods
  • Better coexistence between humans and dogs
  • Legal compliance with ABC Rules 2023 (SC mandate)
  • Healthier dogs staying in familiar territories

How to Get a Stray Sterilized (FREE)

Step 1: Identify the dog (location, color, markings)
Step 2: Contact these FREE organizations:

Myths vs Facts

❌ MYTH:

Sterilization makes dogs weak

✓ FACT:

Sterilized dogs are HEALTHIER, live LONGER, and have fewer health problems. They're not weak — they're stronger!

❌ MYTH:

It's cruel to sterilize animals

✓ FACT:

Sterilization is HUMANE. It prevents hundreds of puppies born to starvation & death. It's the most ethical population control.

❌ MYTH:

Surgery is dangerous; many dogs die

✓ FACT:

Modern sterilization is SAFE with >99% survival rate. More dogs die from untreated disease than from surgery.

❌ MYTH:

Free surgery means poor quality

✓ FACT:

FREE ABC camps are performed by qualified veterinarians. Quality = Paid. Safety & care are the same.

🤕 Injured Animal Guide

Broken Leg or Fracture

Signs: Severe lameness, inability to bear weight, swelling, deformity. Action: Immobilize limb gently. Keep calm and minimize movement. Get to vet immediately — spinal injury may also be present. 🚨 EMERGENCY

Hit by Vehicle

Signs: Severe injuries, difficulty breathing, inability to move. Action: Keep very calm. Minimize movement to avoid spinal damage. Rush to vet immediately. Even if appears okay, internal injuries may be present. 🚨 CRITICAL

Heavy Bleeding

Signs: Blood flowing continuously, wound won't stop, pale gums. Action: Apply firm pressure with clean cloth for 10-15 minutes. Don't check the wound. Get to vet immediately — may need transfusion. 🚨 CRITICAL

Maggot Wound Infestation

Signs: Visible white larvae in wound, foul smell, pain. Action: Do NOT attempt removal yourself. Apply neem oil. Cover with cloth. Get to vet immediately — they have proper tools. 🚨 URGENT (24 hrs)

Suspected Poisoning

Signs: Sudden behavioral change, vomiting, tremors, difficulty breathing, collapse. Action: If possible, identify what was eaten. Keep dog calm. GET TO VET IMMEDIATELY — poisoning is time-critical. 🚨 CRITICAL

Emergency Contacts: Municipal ABC Cell (check city website) • Police for cruelty cases (100) • Local Animal NGOs

☠️ Poisoning Guide: Common Indian Hazards

🐀 Rat Poison (Most Common)

Signs: Lethargy, vomiting, bleeding from gums/nose, pale gums, difficulty breathing.

Action: RUSH TO VET IMMEDIATELY — Treatable with blood transfusion & vitamin K if caught early (within 2-3 hours).

☠️ Pesticides & Insecticides

Signs: Excessive drooling, tremors, difficulty breathing, seizures, collapse.

Action: EMERGENCY — Move to fresh air immediately. Get to vet NOW. Some have antidotes if given early.

🍫 Chocolate Toxicity

Signs: Vomiting, diarrhea, restlessness, rapid heartbeat, tremors.

Action: Dark chocolate = more toxic. Get to vet. Activated charcoal may help if given within 1 hour.

💊 Human Medicines

Signs: Vary (NSAIDs cause vomiting; sleeping pills cause drowsiness/coma).

Action: Bring medicine bottle to vet. Many human drugs are TOXIC to dogs.

🚨 IMMEDIATE ACTIONS TO SLOW POISON (Do While Going to Vet)

  1. Activated Charcoal (if available): Gives ₹50-100 tablets to absorb poison in stomach. Works best within 1-2 hours of ingestion. Do NOT use for corrosive poisons (rat poison, oils).
  2. Make dog vomit (ONLY for certain poisons): Give 3% hydrogen peroxide (1 tsp per 5kg body weight) to induce vomiting if within 30 mins. NOT for corrosive substances. Ask vet by phone first.
  3. Keep calm: Stress speeds up poison absorption. Keep dog quiet, cool, and rested.
  4. DO NOT make dog vomit for: Rat poison, acids, oils, petroleum, strong chemicals.
  5. Identify the poison: Bring container/sample to vet. This helps them treat faster.
  6. Note timing: When was poison eaten? VET NEEDS THIS.
  7. GET TO VET IMMEDIATELY: These steps only BUY TIME. Professional treatment is critical.

⚠️ IMPORTANT FACTS

  • Time is life: Poisoning is time-critical. Every minute counts. Get to vet IMMEDIATELY.
  • Most poisonings ARE treatable: If caught within 1-4 hours, survival rate is high.
  • Deliberately poisoning dogs is a CRIME: Under Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, punishment is up to 2 years imprisonment + ₹5000 fine. Report to police (100) and animal NGOs.
  • Prevention: Never leave rat poison/pesticides in open. Secure all medicines. Watch what strays eat.

🦷 Bite Prevention: Safe Approach

Understanding Dog Body Language

⚠️ Warning Signs (Back Away)

Stiff body • Raised hackles • Intense stare • Bared teeth • Growling • Ears back/forward aggressively

✓ Friendly Signs (Okay to Approach)

Relaxed body • Soft eyes • Wagging tail • Play bow • Slow approach • Relaxed mouth

Safe Approach Techniques

  1. Never approach suddenly — come slowly from the side
  2. Speak softly — intense staring is a threat
  3. Let dog approach you — don't reach out first
  4. Sit or crouch down — appear smaller
  5. Offer food as incentive
  6. NEVER pet while eating — HIGHEST bite risk

If You're Bitten or Scratched

  1. Wash immediately with soap and water for 5-15 minutes
  2. Do NOT apply home remedies — get medical care
  3. Go to hospital within 24 hours (ideally within 48 hours)
  4. Tell doctor it was a street dog — get rabies prophylaxis
  5. Complete all anti-rabies doses (usually 5 doses over 2 weeks)
  6. Report incident to municipal authorities

⚠️ CRITICAL:

Rabies is 100% fatal once symptoms appear. Vaccination is 100% effective if started before symptoms.

💝 Building Trust Over Days & Weeks

The Trust Timeline

Week 1-2:

Dog watches from distance, may not eat if you're present

Week 3-4:

Dog eats while you're nearby but keeps distance

Week 5-8:

Dog allows you closer, may approach for food

Week 8-12:

Dog shows comfort (tail wagging, approaching voluntarily)

Week 12+:

Dog bonded, allows petting, reliable relationship. Some take months/years — be patient!

Trust Building Techniques

  • Consistency is KEY: Same time, place, person
  • Patience: Never force interaction
  • Soft Voice: Calm tone, avoid loud noises
  • Let Dog Approach: Don't reach out first
  • Reward Approach: Food/praise when dog comes closer
  • Sit Down: Appear smaller and less threatening
  • Play Nearby: Show friendliness through play
  • No Sudden Movements: Slow, deliberate actions only
  • First Petting: Only when eating or relaxed, chest/shoulders only
  • Read Signals: If stiffens/backs away — STOP immediately

🍽️ Responsible Feeding Etiquette

🧹 Clean Up Leftovers

Remove uneaten food after 20-30 minutes. Old food attracts pests and spreads disease. Keep area hygienic — reduces complaints and disease transmission.

🚫 Don't Block Entrances

Feed away from apartment entrances. Don't create obstacles for residents. Choose peripheral locations where dogs can eat safely and people can pass freely.

👥 Respect Local Residents

Be mindful of neighborhood concerns. Feed at less visible times. Communicate about your work. Build support, not conflict.

⏰ Consistent Times

Feed at EXACT same time daily. Dogs remember and expect. Consistency creates routine and helps track health patterns.

♻️ Dispose Waste Responsibly

Properly dispose packaging and uneaten food. Don't leave waste in communal areas. Prevents pest attraction and disease spread.

📍 Portion Size

Give 1-2 cups per medium dog. Adjust based on body condition. Fresh water always available. More is not better.

Best Practices Summary

  • Always wear gloves when handling food and dogs
  • Wash hands thoroughly (20+ seconds) after feeding
  • Use separate utensils/bowls for dog food
  • Keep your own pet vaccinated (rabies, DHPP) — your protection
  • Monitor dogs for health changes and report to vets
  • Build relationships with other feeders in your area
